You know, to be fair to Frode, if your entire life you've grown up believing that liches are evil and everyone you've ever talked to has said that the undead are a terrible scourge, why wouldn't you believe that to be true?

Like, let's take the real world as an example. Let's say you see a biker gang on TV, you know the type, lots of leather, lots of spikes, bad attitude, always either smoking or drinking, and forever on the wrong side of the law. Everywhere you go, there's this stereotype that bikers are these big, tough guys who are just as likely to punch you in the face as anything else. People you talk to pretty much all also have the same view, and to be fair, there are those bikers out there who do fit that violent and criminal image.

But in reality? Just as many of those bikers could easily be doctors and lawyers who just happen to like choppers and the sort and go out with their friends once a month or so to motorbike across the highways. They could just be regular folk like you or me, and their hobby is motorbikes. Heck, there are even organizations of bikers who help abused children. They fit the badass biker image to a T, and if you saw them on the street, they'd be pretty intimidating.

But consider Frode's predicament for a while. He's plopped down in the middle of those sorts of people, meets someone who has stories about him that make him sound like a first-class terrorist, and another person that has a reputation like Jack the Ripper. Sure, he could realize "Hey, these people aren't anything like the stories I've heard." but I feel it's just as reasonable for him to think, "Holy crap, I'm surrounded by these dangerous people, I have to trust no one and get out of here as quickly as possible!" I mean, he wouldn't be accurate in his belief, but I guess it would be reasonable, given the information that he had at hand.

Also... that organization? Bikers Against Child Abuse? Literally brought a few tears to my eyes when I first read about them. Awesome folks, all around.

I can't say that the lich arguments are not legit, considering how much most people really know about how a lich would be created.

Yeah, There are some reputations to be overcome here, right?
